The inspector welding is a technical worker highly specialized whose main function, which it shares with the organizations with which it participates, consists in control and to ensure effectively the quality of the work of manufacturing, construction and installation of equipment, structures, and facilities that involve welding operations. Some of the different fields and industrial areas in which it participates in the inspector welding are:

• Construction and maintenance of power generation facilities;

• Plant and equipment of chemical processes, petroleum refineries;

• Pipelines for distribution of oil and its derivatives, the national industry

• Bridges and buildings, construction of enclosures nuclear, naval shipyards
• Locomotives and cars tank railway.

For its part, the fundamental purpose of the inspection of welding, as set forth in the preface of the rules on qualification and certification of inspectors, welding issued by the AWS (American Welding Society), is to determine if the junctions welded “weldments” satisfy the requirements (acceptance criteria) of a code or standard specific, or of some other document. The prologue of such rules makes emphasis in the sense that the inspector should be thoroughly familiar with the processes of welding and cutting and the qualification of procedures and personnel bsoldadura, with the base metals and filler involved and the purpose and limitations of the test methods to be used; it also indicates that you should be able to read and interpret drawings and reports, and judgments responsible. It also says that the work of the inspectors of welding to be effective, must conduct their activities in a way that they are consistent with the requirements and principles of technical and ethical applicable.
